Skill transfer through goal-driven representation mapping
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, we present an approach to transfer that involves analogical mapping of symbols across different domains. We relate this mechanism to ICARUS, a theory of the human cognitive architecture. Our system can transfer skills across domains hypothesizing maps between representations, improving performance in novel domains. Unlike previous approaches to analogical transfer, our method uses an explanatory analysis that compares how well a new domain theory explains previous solutions under different mapping hypotheses. We present experimental evidence that the new mechanism improves transfer over ICARUS’ basic learning processes. Moreover, we argue that the same features which distinguish ICARUS from other architectures support representation mapping in a natural way and operate synergistically with it. These features enable our analogy system to translate a map among concepts into a map between skills, and to support transfer even if two domains are only partially analogous. We also discuss our system’s relation to other work on analogy and outline directions for future research. 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Representing Skill Demonstrations for Adaptation and Transfer
We address two domains of skill transfer problems encountered by an autonomous robot: within-domain adaptation and cross-domain transfer. Our aim is to provide skill representations which enable transfer in each problem classification. As such, we explore two approaches to skill representation which address each problem classification separately. The first representation, based on mimicking, en...

متن کاملEffect of Insulated Up and Down Lid Motion on the Heat Transfer of a Lid-Driven Cavity with an attached fin
This study investigates the effect of lid motion on the optimal characteristics a thin rectangular fin attached on the hot wall of a square lid-driven cavity with active vertical walls. The optimal fin position is studied for Richardson numbers of 0.1-10. The effect of mounting a rectangular fin with a thermal conductivity of 1 and 1000 on minimization and maximization of heat transfer through ...

Model-driven software development is a promising way to cope with the complexity of system integration in advanced robotics, as it already demonstrated its benefits in domains with comparably challenging system integration requirements. This paper reports on work in progress in this area which aims to improve the research and experimentation process in a collaborative research project developin...
متن کاملQualitative Reconstruction of Control Skill
Controlling complex dynamic systems requires skills that operators often cannot completely describe, but can demonstrate . This paper is concerned with the problem of transfer of human control skill into an automatic controller . The process of reconstructing a skill from an operator's behavioural traces by means of Machine Learning (ML) techniques is called behavioural cloning . This paper foc...
